In most jurisdictions, attorneys are mandatory reporters, but frequently, attorneys are unaware of the signs of elder abuse. As the elderly population grows every year, elder abuse will continue to be on the rise. Attorneys should be fully aware of their legal and ethical responsibilities when they suspect elder abuse.

This course will provide a foundational understanding of the epidemic of elder abuse, including its types, risk factors contributing to it, and relevant legal obligations. Throughout the program, the Model Rules will be discussed, along with case studies to help attendees understand real-world applications.

This program is designed for attorneys, especially attorneys who work with aging populations. Both new and experienced attorneys are encouraged to attend, as they are required to report elder abuse.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the various types of elder abuse.
  2. Identify the risk factors and prevalence of elder abuse.
  3. Review case studies and apply legal and ethical principles to these scenarios.
