Excellent client communication is critical to an attorney’s reputation and relationship with their client. Whether taking on a new client, providing a status update, sending a monthly bill, or advocating for a client, attorneys are representing themselves and their firm each time they communicate. Attorneys are encouraged to attend this program to acquire skills and strategies for being effective advocates and partners for their clients.

Attendees will learn about effective interactions with clients and colleagues, fact gathering, legal research and analysis, and time management. In this course, examples are provided to guide attorneys through the process of initial client meetings, identifying legal sources, gathering and analyzing facts, communicating legal conclusions, and managing their time effectively.

The program has been designed for attorneys who are newly admitted to practice law or other junior attorneys, although the content is essential for all attorneys.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Gain confidence for client interactions.
  2. Develop an approach to define the client’s legal issues.
  3. Research to determine laws and regulations involved.
  4. Explore strategies for fact gathering relevant to the legal matters.
  5. Analyze the client’s position and communication regarding expectations.
  6. Examine plans to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
  7. Implement strategies for effective time management.
