Cybercrime is a growing concern for law firms. Attorneys and support staff can become unwitting accomplices to wire fraud and other types of electronic theft. These incidents can result in serious financial losses, create liability for the firm, and potentially harm the attorney's reputation.

In this program, we will survey the threat environment under which law firms operate, discuss the various methods of attack used by fraudsters, and outline measures that firms can take to safeguard themselves and their clients against cybercrime.  We will also outline the steps to take in response to an incident and the types of insurance that can help defray a portion of the loss.

This information will prove valuable not only for attorneys with direct access to operating and escrow accounts but also for any attorney or member of a firm who regularly deals with clients or vendors.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the cybercrime threat environment.
  2. Create a culture of cybersecurity awareness.
  3. Develop an incident response plan.
  4. Evaluate options for risk transfer and recovery.
