About The Lecturer
Honorable Abayomi Ajaiyeoba ("Yomi") is a New York Family Court Judge with over 20 years of legal experience and is a thought leader who champions diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
She is passionate about fostering positive and psychologically safe work environments and communities. Firmly believing in the power of mindfulness, restorative practices, wellness, and holistic approaches, she dedicates herself to integrating these principles into her professional and community work.
Before ascending to the bench, Yomi worked with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), for seven years where she played a key role in ensuring legal compliance with applicable fire safety laws.
Judge Ajaiyeoba began her accomplished legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the NYC Law Department before advancing to Deputy Managing Attorney and later serving as an Administrative Law Judge (Judicial Hearing Officer) at the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.
A certified mediator, conflict resolution expert, and certified Restorative Circle Keeper, Yomi is deeply committed to fostering meaningful dialogue and healing through restorative practices. She is a contributor to the publication “Connecting Through Circles: Using Circles to Support Inclusion, Establish Belonging and Build Trust.” As part of her commitment to global collaboration, she has shared her expertise in panels in New York and abroad.
Passionate about community service, Yomi is actively engaged in several organizations, championing initiatives that promote access to justice, mentorship, and professional development. Judge Ajaiyeoba chairs the Equal Access to Justice Subcommittee on Local History and serves on several committees, exemplifying her commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness within the courthouse community. Her dedication and impact were recently recognized at the Nigerian Consulate in New York when she received the Outstanding Contributions to Law & Society Award from the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians.
Judge Ajaiyeoba graduated from Rutgers School of Law-Newark in May 2004, where she was an associate editor of the Race and the Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Board, a clinician with the Community Development Clinic, and provided pro bono services to the Domestic Violence Project. She received her B.A. from Connecticut College, graduating cum laude with distinction in Psychology and a Helen Lehman Buttenweiser scholar.
She is currently working on her Doctorate of Psychology in Human & Organizational Psychology with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. Her Dissertation study explores the Psychological Structure of Restorative Circles as a conflict intervention method in the workplace.
