About The Lecturer

Betsy Pearce is the founder of Pearce LLP. A graduate of Brown University and Columbia Law School, she began her legal career with a clerkship in the Southern District of New York and thereafter joined the litigation practice at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. She moved into entertainment law, first at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz and then Levine Plotkin & Menin, with a focus on film, advertising and ultimately fashion.

Betsy launched her own practice in 2003. Among her early clients were Alexander McQueen—whom she represented in the sale of his company to the Gucci Group—and Nicolas Ghesquière, whose engagement was the basis for Gucci Group's acquisition of Balenciaga. She later became a Director of Balenciaga.

Since then, Betsy has represented several creative founders in sales of their companies, as well as negotiating designers’ engagements as Creative Director at more than 20 different European luxury houses and numerous other international brands.

Betsy cites as career highlights her representing the CEO and management team of Jimmy Choo in Labelux’ $800 million acquisition of the company and the privilege of serving Carolina Herrera and her family for 2 decades.

Betsy’s practice currently serves an international clientele of creatives and founder-led businesses. Betsy holds a Certification in Coaching from Columbia University. She is fluent in French and lives between New York and Paris.

Separate from her professional work, Betsy is on the Board of Directors of Catholic Guardian Services, a NYC non-profit ($100 annual budget) serving underprivileged children and families and a member of the National Arts Club (est. 1898). Interests include surfing and independent film.
