About The Lecturer

Jason Raether attended the University of St. Thomas Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 2012. He had his first taste of civil litigation while working as a summer clerk for the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office. He knew he was hooked when he came to his supervising attorney with a case about mules from the 1890s that conclusively determined the County’s legal position. After graduating, Jason was fortunate to be the first law clerk hired by Judge Philip C. Carruthers, who was beginning his time on the bench with an assignment to the civil division of the Hennepin County District Court. In this role, Jason gained significant experience with the “nuts and bolts” of civil litigation, i.e., the practical parts of practicing law that never make it into a law school classroom.

Jason broadened his experience upon entering practice by first joining a firm with a substantial workers' compensation practice, which gave him familiarity with the Minnesota administrative courts. Jason later transitioned to a firm with a broader practice area and for which he was responsible for taking the lead on a wide variety of matters, involving many different legal frameworks, including employment law, contract enforcement, shareholder litigation, labor law disputes, real property tax appeals, probate and estate litigation, among many others, In this role, Jason appeared in numerous forums, including state and federal district and appellate courts, unemployment courts, NLRB proceedings, tax court, administrative law matters, among others.

Jason now works for Kennedy & Ruhsam Law Offices, a small, general practice firm in Eagan, Minnesota, where he continues his practice of law as a civil litigator. While he continues to handle a wide variety of commercial and personal disputes, he looks forward to taking on complicated shareholder disputes and contentious employment law cases, as well as assisting his clients with the myriad of legal challenges that confront business owners on a near-daily basis.
