About The Lecturer
Emily Maxim Lamm is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Her practice has a dual focus on artificial intelligence (AI) matters and employment litigation, counseling, and investigations. Emily has been recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America for Labor and Employment Law – Management.
Leveraging her deep knowledge of rapidly evolving AI-related laws, regulations, and frameworks, Emily helps companies develop a strategic and practical approach to crafting and implementing AI policies, programs, and legal risk mitigation strategies. Emily has worked directly with a leading cloud service provider to develop an international compliance plan for cutting-edge AI and machine-learning tools, including large language models. She has also advised AI developers and deployers across industries regarding compliance with the CCPA/CPRA, the EU AI Act, New York City’s Local Law 144, the Illinois AI Video Interview Act, and other federal, state, and international AI, employment, and data protection laws. Emily is a thought leader in this space, regularly speaking and writing on AI issues in employment.
With Emily’s expertise in counseling on employment law matters, she has advised several technology-driven companies on how to craft robust employee privacy policies, notices, and consents that address the deployment and use of automated decision-making technology in the workplace, including with respect to employee monitoring tools, wearable technology, and generative AI-powered applications. Emily also has extensive experience assisting clients in drafting employee handbooks and policies, conducting compliance audits and workplace investigations, navigating state and federal agency investigations, and advising clients on a variety of employment-related issues, including pay equity and DEI initiatives.
Emily graduated Order of the Coif from Vanderbilt Law School in 2019, where she served as the managing editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. During law school, she was awarded the Lightfoot, Franklin & White Award for Best Appellate Brief, received the Scholastic Excellence Award in Employment Discrimination Law, and won the LGBT Bar Association’s Michael Greenberg Writing Competition. In 2016, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, in Biology from Denison University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. Emily was awarded the Denison University President’s Medal and the James T. Glerum Jr. Presidential Top Student Athlete Award as a member of the Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
