About The Lecturer
As a patent attorney, Jose is focused on assisting his clients, from large multinational corporations to fledgling startups, in navigating the patent prosecution landscape in order to secure strong patent protection for their inventions. Since his time at MIT and as an engineer at The Boeing Company, Jose has had a strong interest in following the latest technology trends and maintains a thorough knowledge of these trends in order to better engage engineers involved in the cutting edge of technology. Throughout his professional and educational experience, Jose has had to think outside of the box to solve various engineering issues and he has brought that to his practice, where he engages inventors to also think outside of the box in order to expand the scope of their inventions. This has allowed Jose to obtain more robust patents for his clients.
While Jose started his professional career as an aerospace engineer, specializing in structural analysis and aerodynamics, he has expanded his knowledge base to focus on the latest technologies related to computer science. Through this expansion, Jose has been able to specialize in the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence, cryptography, blockchain and other distributed ledgers, virtual and augmented reality systems, financial technologies, rocket and satellite systems, telecommunications (LTE and 5G), data security, and social media platforms.
Jose comes from a long line of educators, with his mother and other relatives serving as teachers in the Puerto Rico education system. This heritage has instilled in Jose a desire to educate others about technology and the patent process. Within Polsinelli, Jose has made himself available to teach other attorneys about strategies for navigating through the USPTO in order to overcome roadblocks that may appear during prosecution of financial technology and machine learning/artificial intelligence applications. Jose has also volunteered to serve as a faculty member for PLI’s patent prosecution basic training program.
