About The Lecturer

Maria is an associate at Mayerson & Associates, New York City.  She is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and is a member of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. District Court for New Jersey and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.  Maria litigates IDEA cases at the administrative and federal levels.  Maria educates other attorneys in the field of special education law and regularly lectures and publishes on special education topics.

Prior to working at Mayerson & Associates, Maria accepted a fellowship with the New York City Teaching Fellows and is dually certified in New York State as a special education teacher and a general education teacher.  During her tenure with the New York City Department of Education, Maria was a special education classroom teacher assigned to a 6:1:1 class of students diagnosed on the autism spectrum.  Maria is knowledgeable in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), PECS, TEACCH and educational assessments for students with autism.  Maria has also provided in-home and community-based Early Intervention services to children and families in New York and New Jersey.
