About The Lecturer

Nnenna Onua, Esq. has acquired extensive expertise in all facets of litigation as well as mediation and arbitration. Ms. Onua also has a wide range of litigation experience in state and federal courts, and before administrative agencies in a broad range of employment and labor matters, including wrongful terminations cases, sexual harassment, breach of contract disputes, race, gender, age and disability discrimination lawsuits. She has also served as trial and appellate counsel before various courts, and has appeared before state and federal regulatory agencies, such as the New York State Division of Human Rights. In the employment sector, Ms. Onua has successfully litigated cases against major American corporations and government agencies, including Weil, Gotshal & Manges, Key Food, Incorporated, and JPMorgan Chase Bank. She is currently litigating a high profile sexual harassment lawsuit against the New York State Department of Correction. The case has received media attention, including publication in the New York Daily News.

Ms. Onua also represent real estate clients in the home buying and selling process, neighborhood disputes, deed or title issues, foreclosures, contractor disputes, eminent domain proceedings, zoning matters, predatory lending practices and landlord-tenant cases.

Ms. Onua began her legal career at Brooklyn Law School, where she was a member of the prestigious Moot Court Honor Society, Evening President, of the Black Law Students’ Association, and was a Delegate for the Student Government Association. While attending law school, Ms. Onua worked full-time for the New York Stock Exchange, and interned for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, South Brooklyn Legal Services and the Legal Aid Society during the summers.

Since public service is a large part of McKinley Onua & Associates’ identity, Ms. Onua has been involved in several community-based organization and projects that deal with education reform policies and prison rehabilitation agencies. Moreover, she has served as a Treasurer and campaign supporter in the civic endeavors of several local politicians. Aside from her practice, she has also served as adjunct professor at Brooklyn College and Touro College in New York City, teaching freshman students the basics of professionalism and orienting them to the world of forensic and judicial practice.

Ms. Onua is a Brooklyn native of Nigerian and Jamaican descent. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance and Information Systems from New York University, Stern School of Business, and her Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School.
