Legal Support Staff and Optimizing Productivity

About This Course
This program will explain the job duties, capabilities, educational requirements, and supervisory requirements for the support staff uniquely available to attorneys in various practice areas/employment settings. Attendees will learn how to efficiently and ethically utilize these individuals and their talents to provide better, more cost-effective legal services, regardless of the clients they service.
Attendees will learn about the job duties and capabilities of limited licensed legal technicians, paralegals, office managers, law clerks, certified legal interns, and administrative assistants. Other topics include these individuals' educational requirements, job outlook projections, and licensing requirements. Attendees will also learn how to supervise these individuals in accordance with the applicable ethical rules and maximize their talents.
This program is created for any attorney in private practice, public-sector employment, or any other field who wishes to increase their productivity and the quality of their work product through various support staff. Attorneys interested in learning how to collaborate effectively with colleagues and support staff will learn how to do so in compliance with applicable ethical rules.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the duties and capabilities of limited licensed legal technicians, paralegals, office managers, law clerks, certified legal interns, and administrative assistants
- Compare and contrast the certifications and licensing requirements between limited licensed legal technicians and other support staff available to lawyers
- Apply Bureau of Labor Statistics Data to create job listings, preferences, and requirements for limited licensed legal technicians, paralegals, office managers, law clerks, certified legal interns, and administrative assistants
- Understand and explain the Unauthorized Practice of Law and how it applies to supervising limited licensed legal technicians, paralegals, office managers, law clerks, certified legal interns, and administrative assistants
- Assess how to capitalize on various support staff to improve communication and efficiency
- Develop an understanding of the non-traditional tasks that can ethically be delegated to limited licensed legal technicians, paralegals, office managers, law clerks, certified legal interns, and administrative assistants
