Understanding the Alaska CLE Requirement

Total CLE Requirement:

3 credit hours annually (12 recommended)

Credit Format:

All credits may be completed online, via on-demand courses.

Credit Breakdown:

Ethics: 3 hours required
General: 9 recommended, but not required

Compliance Deadline:

December 31st

Reporting Deadline:

February 1st

In addition to the 3 hours of ethics, attorneys are encouraged, but not required, to complete 9 additional hours of CLE each year.

Reporting Information:

Alaska is a self-reporting jurisdiction. Attorneys may carry over 12 credits to the next reporting period. Attorneys are required to report whether they have completed at least 3 hours of Ethics, as well as whether they have completed the 9 additional hours of CLE.

Attorneys can report their credits online through their member portal on the Alaska Bar Association website.

Newly Admitted Requirement:

New admittees report for the year following their year of admission.
