Understanding the South Carolina CLE Requirement

Total CLE Requirement:

14 credit hours annually

Credit Format:

*6 hours must be taken live
8 may be completed online

*Lawyers may earn all or any portion of the CLE credit they are required to obtain for the 2020- 2021 annual reporting year through accredited online and telephonic courses.

DISTANCE LEARNING CLE HOURS IN EXCESS OF YOUR ANNUAL REQUIREMENT CANNOT BE CARRIED FORWARD TO THE 2021-2022 REPORTING YEAR.

2 hours Ethics

*Including 1 hour of Substance Abuse, Mental Health Issues, or Stress Management and the Legal Profession every two (2) years.

TRTCLE reports completed courses to The Supreme Court of South Carolina Commission on CLE and Specialization.

Newly Admitted Requirement:

New admittees are exempt from the MCLE requirement during the reporting period in which they are licensed.
