Understanding the Ohio CLE Requirement

Total CLE Requirement:

24 credit hours every two years

Credit Format:

12 hours must be taken live
12 may be completed online

Credit Breakdown:

21.5 hours General
2.5 hours in Ethics, Professionalism, Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, Mental Health, or Access to Justice.

Compliance Deadline:

December 31

COMPLIANCE PERIOD RULE: Attorneys with last names beginning with A through L report in odd-numbered years. Attorneys with last names beginning with M through Z report in even-numbered years.

December 31

Newly Admitted Requirement:

New admittees must complete the “New Lawyers Training Program” instead of the standard CLE requirement during their first compliance period.
