Understanding the Alabama CLE Requirement
Total CLE Requirement:
12 credit hours annually
Credit Format:
6 hours must be taken live
6 may be completed online
Credit Breakdown:
11 hours General
At least 1 Ethics hour
Compliance Deadline:
December 31st

February 15th
Reporting Information:
TRTCLE reports for Alabama Attorneys.
Carryover Information:
* Rule 6.B states an attorney can carry over a maximum of 12 credits into the next compliance period. Within that 12 credits, only 1 credit can be ethics. Credits can only be carried forward for 1 year.
* Newly admitted attorneys can carry up to 12 MCLE credits earned during their calendar year of admission year (given they report them by February 15).
Carryover is limited to the immediately succeeding reporting period.
Newly Admitted Requirement:
New admittees must take “Alabama’s Mandatory Professionalism Seminar” within the first 12 months of admission. The 3 hours earned at this seminar will count towards the 12 hour annual CLE requirement.
