Icon About This Course

First, the COVID-19 pandemic, then a financial crisis, then pervasive social unrest, and current deprecation of the rules of law and law enforcement, have all coalesced into a perfect storm of new risks and challenges to practitioners. Daily activities of life and work, including the traditional ways of practicing law, are now affected by the science of epidemiology. Since we must now socially distance, there are increasing security concerns, court access restrictions, and case management delays and deadlines. Routine day to day functions, like signing up new clients, managing staff, moving cases, deposing witnesses, arguing motions, and even taking CLE courses, are being performed differently. Modern tools for practicing law, using computers, cell phones, videoconferencing, and digital technology are now being used more frequently than ever before to interact with clients, counsel, judges, and jurors. This course teaches legal practitioners how to adapt technology to lawyering in crises by addressing procedures, pitfalls, videoconferencing, and the best new ways to practice law going forward.
