This seminar will examine the legal issues confronted by governing authorities, the police, and the courts when dealing with protests. This course will provide attorneys with the skills to identify the legal issues surrounding either mass demonstrations or riots by radical groups. Those attending the seminar will become familiar with the history and ideology of current violent protest groups. Attendees will be aware of the legal standards concerning police use of force, both deadly and non-deadly. First Amendment issues will be addressed, including the distinction between protected and criminal speech.
