Though professionals are not alone in committing sexual indiscretions, such violations can extract an exceptionally high toll on one’s practice and reputation. Examining and learning from others’ mistakes should prove invaluable to avoid pitfalls that have been ruinous to too many practitioners. Empathy, transference, and countertransference are common as professionals reach out to serve clients. Wrongly used it can prove costly to both clients and professionals. Focusing on lawyer and client vulnerability – with an overlay of professional responsibility – will afford new insights into maintaining requisite high standards leading to a better appreciation of professionalism.
