About The Lecturer
Attorney Jeremy Cohen is the founder of Boston Dog Lawyers, a law firm primarily focused on pet owners rights. In 2016 his became the first law office in Massachusetts dedicated to working solely on pet related matters. He and his staff have now spoken with over 4,000 pet owners and pet businesses from around the world. Attorney Cohen is in court on pet related cases 2 to 3 days per week throughout the Commonwealth.
Boston Dog Lawyers now has an affiliate in San Diego and is the subject of a potential reality show. The lawyers at BDL make arguments in court that challenge the way pets are viewed in the legal system. They are regularly challenged by judges when seeking to align the modern view that society has for pets to the controlling case law from as far back as the 1800s.
Attorney Cohen has become active in various areas of the pet world. He works in collaboration with the Ollie’s Law coalition to pass legislation in MA to regulate dog boarding facilities. He was invited to speak at the International Boarding and Pet Services Association and is a guest lecturer at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine. He also serves as the chair of the ethics committee for the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and was named "member of the year" for 2022-23.
Jeremy Cohen has made presentations to the American Bar Association and the MA and NY Bar Associations. He recently presented a 2-hour CLE in MA discussing the varied cases that fall under the pet law umbrella. At any given time, several of his cases are in the local news. Boston Dog Lawyers believes that in order to have these non-traditional legal issues taken seriously, the advocating counsel must be reasonable and credible. People in the pet world need to know that there are predictable and consistent outcomes when their rights are being considered whether for a dangerous dog, a pet custody case, or wrongful pet injury matter.
