Lecturer Bio

William J. Kovatch, Jr. is a solo practitioner who has practiced primarily immigration law for the past eight years.  William has appeared before the Immigration Courts in Arlington, VA, Baltimore, MD, Charlotte, NC and York, PA.  He has pursued immigration appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Sixth Circuits.  


In state courts, William has defended non-citizens in misdemeanor cases, and advised criminal defense lawyers on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.  He has appeared before the Virginia Supreme Court on a post-conviction matter with immigration consequences.


Prior to opening his own firm, William spent eight years practicing international trade law with the U.S. Department of Commerce.  He has argued before NAFTA binational panels and the World Trade Organization.  He earned his JD from Temple Law School in 1998, and his Ll.M. in Transnational Law in 2000.
