Paramjit L. Mahli is the founder of the award-winning SCG Legal PR Network, a service that connects legal experts with reporters nationally and internationally. Mahli has worked in communications for 18 years, with experience in journalism, marketing, public relations, and teaching in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, she specializes in PR and marketing-related training and consulting.
Mahli has written articles for legal publications such as Law Practice Today, Small Firm Inc., Marketing the Law Firm, TechnoLawyer, New Jersey Law Journal, Lawline and Immigration Law Weekly. She has been quoted in publications such as Lawyers USA and Long Island Business News. Her work is also featured in a book by international legal expert Dr. Silvia Hodges titled “Winning Legal Business from Medium-sized Companies.”
Mahli is Co-Chair of the Communications Committee of the New York Chapter of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) and a member of the Association of Continuing Legal Education and the Public Relations Society of America. Mahli also serves as a Judge for the News & Documentary Emmy Awards for The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Her philanthropic efforts include volunteering for the Waterkeeper Alliance and Kiva.
She has also spoken on various CLE panels on marketing for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and has been a guest lecturer at Fordham Law School for its LLM students. Mahli frequently writes for and teaches CLEs and teleseminars on topics such as connecting legal experts with reporters, training associates, crisis communication and social media.
Before she launched SCG Legal PR Network, Mahli started her career at Blackwell’s in Oxford, England, and transitioned into journalism after moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
She went on to work as a producer and reporter for international and domestic news organizations, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Financial Post, CNN, CNNfn and The Journal of Commerce.
In 2005, Mahli started The Sun Communication Group, her own PR and marketing consultancy for law firms, and later launched SCG Legal PR Network in 2009. Less than a year after its launch, SCG Legal PR Network won the Gold MarCom Award for creativity and innovation. In 2010, SCG Legal PR Network was a Finalist in the Best New Service of the Year category in the 7th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Mahli was awarded a scholarship to Anne McKevitt’s Million Dollar Plus Club, E100 Group Coaching program in April 2011.
Mahli’s media relations experience includes outreach efforts for a new economic indicator gauging consumer intentions on credit which garnered an honorable mention from the highly prestigious Magellan Awards.
