AboutAbout This Course

Substance abuse and other mental health issues among attorneys is seldom discussed. This course examines the stigma behind mental health issues in the legal profession and how that stigma negatively affects attorneys, their clients, family, and colleagues. There are programs in place that address lawyer misconduct, depression, and psychiatric stigma, in order to break away from this pattern of silence. When mental health issues are untreated it may also lead to Ethical and/or Professionalism concerns. An additional pertinent issue addressed in the scope of this course is when lawyers have been placed on a Sex Offender Registry.
